ECC and collaborating Partners Concludes Elections Observation in Nimba County, Liberia with Support from the European Union

The Elections Coordinating Committee (ECC), in collaboration with the Liberia Election Observation Network (LEON) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP-Liberia), has concluded its observation mission for the Nimba County senatorial by-election held on April 22, 2025.
During the by-election, over 100 trained observers and supervisors, were deployed across all nine electoral districts in Nimba County. Their key focus was the monitoring the setup, voting, counting, and tallying processes of the 2025 Nimba Senatorial By-Election to ensure transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
In their preliminary findings, the observation teams commended the National Elections Commission (NEC) for the timely distribution of electoral materials and the adequate deployment of polling staff. The observers noted that voting commenced on time in nearly all polling places, with essential materials available and security personnel present to maintain order .
Additionally, isolated incidents of election-related intimidation and violence were observed during the campaign period. The observers highlighted the need for continued efforts to promote issue-based politics and discourage divisive rhetoric .
